ANNOUNCEMENTS

 Dear Classmates Enrolled on website.

There has been some confusion regarding "Missing Classmates" located on our website.  These missing classmates are only "missing" from the website itself. In other words they have not registered on the website.  The majority of those classmates "missing' on the website are located in our class data base.  These classmates have also received an invitation to the reunion and many are responding in the affirmative.  We hope to soon list the many classmates that will be in attendance at the reunion.  If you have any questions please contact me.  Thanks, Roger

If you move, please log on and update your contact information - especially email address.  That will ensure that the next reunion information gets to you and you don't end up on the Missing Classmates List.

Our plan is to keep this website up and running and use it as a communication tool for future reunions, so please be sure to keep the website address handy!

This website is for all of us!  To get the most out of it, please be sure to register (it's FREE) so you can use all the features possible. NOTE: Changes are made regularly so please keep checking back... and don't forget to direct all of our classmates here too or send us their information, e-mail, etc.  Your contact information will be used for our upcoming gatherings, so please register so we can find you.

FINDING THE CLASS OF 1960
By Gordon LaCombe

Depending on which figures you believe, there were 707, or 680 or 638 of us. The program handed out at graduation listed 555 names. The 1960 SPY had 601 pictures (including a side-by-side duplicate) but not everyone shown went on to graduate. The CAMERA SHY group totaled 80. You do the math…but whatever the real number was, what an interesting group we were (and are).

My job for the last several months has been to track down MISSING CLASSMATES, some of whom weren’t missing after all, and some of whom are still missing. You are “missing” if the post cards we sent out last November came back or if you haven’t filled out your CLASSMATE PROFILE. You’d think that armed with several of the booklets handed out at previous reunions, and some of the search programs available on computers that this task would have been a snap. You’d be wrong.
Beside the “address unknown” classmates in the booklets, in the past few years many of us have retired, changed e-mail addresses, traded the Colonial for a condo, become Florida or Arizona residents, and, worst of all from my perspective, gotten rid of the land line and gone to cell phones. Spelling errors in the SPY and the booklets caused a lot of lost time. We are of an age where there are often no longer any family members living in Kenosha. There’s more – but you have the idea.

I naively thought I would find almost everyone. I was wrong – there are still 68 classmates that I can’t find as of late May. I may locate a few more with an ad in the KENOSHA NEWS.
Why such a big deal? Because we owe a postcard to everyone we can find – some have already indicated that they can’t come – but at least they know about the reunion and can read this web site.

This is one of the most interesting things I have done in a long time. I have made well over 200 phone calls, and talked to people I haven’t seen in half a century. Many I didn’t even know in High School. The following comments are based on these conversations and information in CLASSMATE PROFILES.

WHO WE ARE - WHAT WE DID

EDUCATION– probably more teachers than any other occupation. Classroom teachers, principals, coaches, guidance counselors, librarians, music teachers, college professors, researchers.

MEDICINE - doctors, nurses, physical therapist, mental health counselor, psychologist, public health officer, holistic health manager

BUSINESS - car and motorcycle dealers, sales, insurance, engineers, shopkeepers, CPAs, factory workers, mechanics, skilled trades, and computer operators and programmers (who knew what a computer was in 1960?)

LAW – lawyers, policemen, police chief, NSA, FBI agent

AND…. A Roman Catholic priest, ministers, two nuns, two patent holders, two writers, two airline stewardesses, musicians, an artist, a poet, jeweler, city planner, beauty pageant president, a fire chief, a pro golfer…………………..

MILITARY - classmates in all 5 branches. Air Force Academy graduate. Two Lt. Colonels, one Navy Commander. A submariner, destroyer sailor, a Sea Bee, infantry, medics, missile maintenance officer, helicopter pilots, 4-engine transport pilots, Special Forces officer, doctors, nurses and a chaplain.

VIET NAM - I believe that everyone that went came home. A Marine helicopter pilot was badly wounded in the legs. Many close calls on the ground. A Navy pilot had to eject from his shot-up attack plane.

TRAVEL – We’ve been to six continents. At least two classmates live in England, one each in Italy, France and Thailand. Places we’ve lived include Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Ethiopia, Germany, Guam, Ireland, Liberia, The Netherlands, Nicaragua, Peru, Poland, Puerto Rico, Spain and Turkey.

CHILDREN - I have no idea how many – or how many grandchildren or even great-grandchildren. Several people have the “world’s best-looking” or “smartest “ or “nicest” grandchildren”.

Remember – these comments are based only on the classmates I read about or talked to on the phone. Who knows what other good stories are out there, like the classmate whose former house is now owned by a famous rock & roll pioneer. Or, the classmate who sang and acted on Broadway. Or, the classmate with three children and nine stepchildren. Or the classmate who was a pioneer in the establishment of electronic communications in Africa.

I’m dying to hear more of these myself – see you in September.

From  Joan B. Duffin (May 25, 2010)

Thanks much to everyone who has and will contribute their efforts on this web site. I stumbled across it when I put my name in Google search. I've now registered and am no longer on the "missing" list. Best wishes, Joan

From Evelyn R. Blanchard Richards:
Roger & Co.:

Just viewed the photos from our 45th reunion and they are terrific! Think you got just about everyone who attended the Friday night get-together and/or the actual reunion on Saturday night. They brought back fun memories of the events and made me even more eager for our 50th coming up in September. As Bob Hope said, "Thanks for the memories".
